Hi everyone. I was wondering if I spent 3 years in Canada but they were not continuous, so say, I went abroad for a month of vacation twice during those three years but applied for citizenship after 3 years and 2 months, will I still be eligible for citizenship? Can my 3 years stay have breaks that are covered later on, and will that still count toward citizenship? Thanks.

It’s about 1095 days of physical and not simply about your PR status. Most applicants travel outside of Canada within the eligibility period, but the question is really about the physical presence.

Does that mean I can, in my hypothetical scenario, take two one-month vacations during this period and still be fine as long as I have stayed 1095 days? I am only concerned about whether they need the physical presence to be continuous or not. Thanks.

You fill out the Physical Presence Calculator ( https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do ) and that will do the maths for you.
I have done that already. The reason I am posting here is because that confused me. According to that, even by counting time in the past, it is saying I will be eligible for citizenship in 2020. That is why I was asking will they require the physical presence in Canada to be continuous or are breaks allowed?

Breaks are allowed. If you check the physical presence calculator there is a area where you need to list all your absences from Canada within the eligibility period. Once you put in the data your actual presence days is calculated and it confirms whether you can apply. I had 3 breaks from Canada in my eligibility period but all were short duration to home country. Since you are not applying shortly you could wait and find out the latest rules in force at the time you apply.
