If I moved to the US, can I still sponsor my parents?

Hi,

I am planning to move to the US to work there. And I am concerned if I can still sponsor my parents or not?
Also is there any way I can sponsor them without awaiting this online application to open up every year? I wasn't selected for the past two years.

Thanks,
Reem

1. No. You must be living in Canada.
2. No. You cannot sponsor unless you were selected in the lottery.

Thanks for your response.

What if the scenario was I live in Canada ( I have a house in Canada), but I work in the US on a contract. I got this contract job offer in the US, and it's a 3 hours drive to Canada. I am planning on buying a property in Canada because it's kinda of a temporary job. But in the same time I will be renting a place in the US close to my company.

If you are not residing in Canada, then you are not eligible to sponsor. Trying to find a way to "work around" the rules will not work in any way to your advantage. If you plan to work and live the majority of the time in the US, then you aren't living in Canada.

Unless you plan to commute 3 hours each way everyday while you work in the States, you cannot do that.

I have commute and work in the States daily before and it was only 1 hour drive each way. So it's possible in some cases but not likely yours.

Even if the OP were to do what you did, the US income would not count towards LICO qualification since income must be Canadian source income. In other words the pay must be from within Canada.
