Leaving country on visitor visa

Hi all,

Submitted my PR app, AOR received and medical passed. I had a very short time frame (like a day) to apply for BOWP before work visa expired and it just didn't happen in time. So I have applied for a visitor visa and stopped working. This hasn't been approved yet (submitted 2 weeks ago so hopefully soon) but it should be fine... my question is:

Has anyone left the country on a visitor visa whilst their PR app was in process (I want to fly to Hawaii in August to surprise my parents who are on vacation there) and then returned to Canada and had any problems proving to immigration that they aren't coming to work illegally etc etc??

Obviously I would take what documentation I could (bank statements to show proof of funds being a main one)... was just wondering is anyone has had any problems?

Thank you!

Depending on the country that you are originally from you may only need and eTA. Have you looked into that?
I am in a similar boat than you. My PR is being processed and my OWP expired and I have submitted for restoration of status since I let it expire (stupidly on my behalf).

I am an Australian living in Canada whilst my PR is processing, so I need my visitor visa to stay. I will get an ETA though as mine has expired since coming to Canada 2 yrs ago. It's been over two week's now and I'm getting worried my visitor visa won't be approved as I did it ON the day my visa expired and it wouldn't let me put that day's date in. So I might be applying to restoration of status too...

But just hoping I can leave the country and re-enter with no problems...

It sounds like you applied to change your status to visitor. If you leave Canada and there is no decision yet, then that application will be cancelled, and when you re-enter Canada, you will be given a new assessment as a visitor on your eTA. That’s what I believe will happen based on what I learned on this forum.

Thank you for your response. I really have to make a decision whether I'm going to go or not as the date is fast approaching. I suppose on my re-entry to Canada I just have to show my original online visitor visa application (to show I had implied status this whole time), proof of funds to support myself for however long until my PR comes through, proof I have a PR app in progress.... anything else you can think of?? I think I'm just stressing I wouldn't get let back in for some reason :(

IMO you’re overanalyzing this.

Once you leave Canada, you have no status. Your implied status will be over too.

You will need to apply for a new eTA, or wait for your COPR, to re-enter.

When you apply for your eTA, they’ll check on your travel history to Canada. It really sounds like you did everything correctly, so your eTA should be approved if you wish to re-enter before you get your COPR.

Please stop worrying too much. :) You’re fine.
