hi all,

If on the reference letter the specific no.of working hours is not mentioned in that case, what else can we provide and is acceptable to prove the working hours for a job where one completed over 6 years.

pay stubs.
unfortunately it is not mentioned on the paystubs, tax forms, offer letter anywhere. Per co.policy all the employee details would be in employee handbook and i have no access to it now.

I have put a mail to the employer however I am not sure when i will get it and OINP wants it asap

Just ask your company to include average number of hours in a new letter. If this is not possible, do you have an offer letter that perhaps has this information??

And yes, you can use pay stubs, Salary increase letters etc(assuming they paid you more over the years).

Even if you get a new reference letter, make sure you also send pay stubs, contracts and anything else you have. Apparently there are a growing number of cases being cancelled for incompleteness ( mostly for documents that were not specifically requested)

Example,
For my study permit application, I only received an upload page for passport bio page and was later refused for not including my immigration status in the US(f1 visa).

Get a letter from your supervisor or colleagues on plain paper and get it notarized if your company does not respond.

Thanks buddy. But you should believe, with my application i submitted offer letter, appointment letter, changes to offer on corporate actions, paystubs, increment letters, promotion letters, appreciation letters almost all that i had to prove I worked close to 7 years in that firm.

Feel sorry that inspite of all this information, i get stuck for such a petty thing, which logically does not make sense. The company is not some small co, its a worldwide known investment bank.

I am trying to get hold of employee handbook coz employee related details like leaves, general benefits are provided seperate and I did not keep that for record. never knew it would be so important.

Its only important to them because of the existing law. They have to calculate at least 30 hours per week x 52 = 1560 hours per year. So in your case, I assume you are claiming points for 3 years skills transferability in CRS and 6 years experience in FSW points which would be 15.

They cannot come up the number of years worked without weekly hours mentioned, basically this means your offer letter, pay stubs, raises are all supporting materials to backup your claim of having worked this many hours for a certain company.

I do hope they change this policy or use more discretion of how they calculate hours. You and I would be able to come to a conclusion that, based on how high or low your salary was, you must have worked a certain number of hours(else why would an employer pay someone). But unfortunately the Visa officers are not allowed make that assumption.

Laws - Interesting and Frustrating at the same time.

Absolutely my thoughts. Couldn't agree more :)

Please help.
Is the no of working hours per week/month mandatory information for ref letters. Did anyone report cancellation/refusal based on this.
My employer has refused to give any amended letter or any other document for the same.

All that they confirm is they have mentioned full time employment on the letter and that's more than enough.

How do I put this to the case officer.

Hi, how did your case work out? I am in a similar situation and I’d be so grateful for your guidance. My employers have also only mentioned “full time”, no work hours are mentioned in any of my letters.

What I did was, I went back on the email to my HR asking them to provide the same on the ref and issue a revised one. To which the hr replied by saying it's not the company policy to give details of working hours. So I attached this mail and wrote an affidavit saying I confirm that the working hours are so n so and I am making this affidavit to support the claim I make on the application as the employer is not able to provide cutting policy issues and attached the mail the to affidavit.
No questions were asked.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I am into investment banking as well. I got the number of hours written on my letter. Don't write it like that. I wrote specifically as to what all requirements the letter should have and copy pasted it from the CIC website. They asked me on this particular thing as well but I asked them to simply write 40 hours (even if I work more than that) on the letter. Btw whats your NOC?

Your HR was probably being helpful. Most of the HR will follow policies and there are many here who have issues particularly with ref letters.
I did what best suited me and it worked for me as the HR refused to mention it.

I have not claimed that everyone should follow.
