Did anyone land in ontario when they were pregnant and deliver the baby before their OHIP kicked in?

How much did you end up paying out of pocket? In this situation can you get private insurance?

But, does private insurance cover delivery charges if your we're already pregnant before the insurance coverage started?

You will not be able to get any insurance to cover the birth if you are already pregnant. I believe it is around $5000 for a normal hospital birth. If there are complications, it can be much more expensive.

Thank you! Actually am surprised it's only $5000. I am in the US and with my current insurance plan I ll be paying USD 2000 as a deductible anyway!

Normally deliver with epidural is closer to 10k. There are a lot of variables but someone recently quoted almost 9k I believe. It is dependent on the hospital. $20k is what you should plan for if it is c-section. If you are admitted for many days price always goes up.

You can apply anytime during the first 3 months after landing. The 3 month wait time will always start based on your landing date. Make sure you bring proof of your landing date. All information should be available on the service Ontario website.

Have no idea. Have never used it and haven't read the policy. Also all policies are subject to your personal medical history.
