Hello,

I started my full time job in Feb. , on contract until end of March, 2019. The position that I got was 'Procurement Clerk' - NOC C position, however the duties were of Contracting Officer - NOC B position, once I brought up the issue to my manager. I got promoted on April 3, 2018, yay, my official title is also NOC B now.

My question is next year, will I be able to apply in Feb. ? this is because based on the job titles ( 2 months NOC C, 10 months NOC B), however the duties I've been performing are exactly the same for both positions which was why my manager promoted me in the first place...

Please advise.

Thanks,

Just ask your manager to make a reference letter that states you worked for 12 months in NOC B and don’t mention anything about NOC C since according to you, both have duties of NOC B.

Then you can apply in Feb. just start getting your manager on board right now rather than wait till last minute
This sounds like a misrepresentation... lol

lol how come? shes saying she did exact same job of a noc b including those 2 months that are mistakenly under noc C.

So its unfair if 2 months of her NOC B job are not going to get counted simply because they're somewhere listed under noc C.
I absolutely agree with you that it would be unfair if my first 2 months are not counted.

However, my official job title for those 2 months was NOC C. So saying I had another job title during this time I think would be a misrepresentation.

Instead, I'm thinking maybe write an explanation letter as in why those 2 months should be counted, since duties matter more than job title. But this seems risky however.

My manager is more than happy to back me up, I'm working for a fairly reputable/large organization, so maybe it could help with the credibility....

Thanks for your help, I never actually thought of your way. :)

This is basically what I've done with my application since my job title was Customs Clerk NOC C for the whole year, but when you check the job description and duties it didn't even come close to all the stuff I used to do. So I just told my old boss that I needed a letter with my duties but I would be applying through a different job title and NOC because it matches better according to the NOC descriptions and my boss signed the letter. I don't think this is misrepresentation, I think it's only matching your profiling to the CIC standards. Of course in the end it all depends on the VO.

Do you mind if I ask if your application went through?

It makes perfect sense that job title is irrelevant, since duties are more important, however, this might raise a red flag since I believe many have tried to overstate their duties....

just been 22 days after AOR buddy, anxiety is growing everyday just like everybody else. But I guess if they doubt you they can contact your employer like other people have said VOs do. I've seen a couple of rejection letters from other people and basically it comes down to the proof you submit, for which they seem to take into account your past experience or training, academic background related to your experience and everything else they can relate to your experience. They just won't take the letter and say "seems legit... or not". I'm betting they even check if your wages are at least near the average for the NOC you're declaring.

Good luck. Keep everyone posted. I think as long as you actually perform the duties and your manager is willing to help, everything should be fine.

I agree,

I agree, VO will only check for duties to match the job description of that NOC code.
I don’t think they will give more weightage to job title than your duties that you had actually performed. Its actually pretty common. Recruiters give rough job titles in the beginning and only when you spend some time working in that role that you realize, wait a sec, I’m doing a lot more than my states duties.

I don’t think it’s misrepeesentation if you are trying to put correct job title for duties that are essentially of a noc b job.

I think even a simple explanation letter by your manager that shun you had an incorrect job title for first 2 months, would be suffice.

I really don’t think it’s a cause for concern.
Just curious, how can VO otherwise find out your first 2 months were under a NOC job title when all the documents you will be submitting will clearly state that you worked in a NOC B job?

But just for full satisfaction, if the 2 month difference are really important to you, book a consultation with a licenced experiences consultant or lawyer that has really good reviewsnand they will guide you for sure .
I would probably write an explanation letter for those 2 months explaining the duties.

VO wouldnt be able to find out if my manager doesn't mention the NOC C job title for the first 2 months. However, on my official records, it was NOC C job title, so by asking her to say I had another job title for these 2 months would put her in an awkward situation. She would be definitely willing to back up my NOC B duties that i performed under NOC C job title however.

I am in the same situation, but it is 6 ‘months in my case instead of 2 months.

My title and duties were redefined as per what I was doing. So should I consider that previous experience or does it need to be started from day it is revised. I won’t tag it as a promotion, because in my case there is no salary increase that happened.
