Hey Everyone,

Hope it's a sunny morning for everyone. I've been trying to look for a job in Canada for over a year now. However, it seems very difficult from my home country. Most search engines provide job results that are mostly Canadian oriented, less focus on how to get a job from a different country.

Let's face the truth, I can get any job I want from within my country. I've been refusing job offers with very handsome salaries because they don't match with my skill-zone. I have been working on Project Management and Internet marketing for the last 3 years and I've failed to find a similar type of job in the country, so I was hoping to do it somewhere there's actually a field for it.

I have extensive profiles on both LinkedIn and oDesk, but I can't seem to make any contacts or jobs through that. Any suggestion, people??

LinkedIn Profile: bd(dot)linkedin(dot)com/pub/imtiaz-ahmed/31/661/161/
oDesk Profile: odesk(dot)com/users/~019bb018676197ed7c

Please help. I have all the skills and I'm good at what I do, but can't seem to market myself. Any sort of help would be appreciated.

Cheers

There's really no secret. You just have to keep applying and hope you get lucky.

The reason why you are finding it so difficult is that many/most employers won't consider foreign workers for open positions. To hire a foreign worker, the employer has to prove that the advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the role. They then must send this proof to a Canadian government body who then decides if they tried hard enough to find a Canadian for the role and if they are allowed to hire the foreign worker.

Unfortunately there are many qualified Canadians with similar skills to yours. This means that most employers will only look at Canadian resumes because they know the government won't give them approval to hire a foreign worker.

It's definitely not impossible to find an employer - just very difficult.

Good luck.

The type of job that you can apply for from Bangladesh would be either a heavy equipment operator, mechanic, bus or truck driver...etc There is a labour shortage in these jobs in Alberta. Look for employers in Northern Alberta (Fort mcmurray, Grande Prairie...etc)

Good luck

Thanks a lot for this information. I understand the point of view now. Do you suggest any alternative way around, like going for a labor job and making connections in my field thereafter?

Well this could be one way. You will first need to find an employer who is willing to offer you a job. Once you are in Canada, bear in mind that it is not easy to change employers since your work permit will be tied to your employer.

Good luck.
