Hello,

I've applied for the Post Graduate Work Permit on June 4, 2018. However, my visa is expiring on July 30, 2018 and my study permit states that I MUST leave Canada by July 30, 2018.

My question is whether I will have to leave Canada if I don't get decision on my work permit before that date? The reason being, it takes longer to get decision from CIC.

Thanks in advance!

As you applied for the PGWP while your study permit was still valid, you are on implied status. So you can stay in Canada until you get a decision

Yes, my study permit ended on September the 1st but didn't get my PGWP until November. Just remember you cannot leave Canada though (even for a holiday) until you get a decision. I even continued working while on implied status.
Can I work while I am waiting to receive my post-graduation work permit?
You can work full-time while waiting for a decision on your post-graduation work permit application if, at the time you submitted your application, you:

  • had a valid study permit,
  • had completed your program of study,
  • were eligible to work off-campus without a permit, and
  • did not work off-campus more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions.
