Hi All,

before I get started, let me give you all insight of my case which is stated underneath:-

I will be getting married in December'18, My fiancée is in Vancouver and presently on work permit for three years. She will be completing a year of work network in January 2019. I am planning to move to Canada after our marriage.

Below are a few questions I have:-
  • what should be the process for me to get an open work permit?
  • Can I come with her on Visitor VISA and then apply for an open work permit from Canada?
  • how much time does work permit take to get approved?
It will be great if you all can share inputs with us which will help us make this process a little quicker.

Thank you so very much all in advance.

Best Regards,

1. Find a company in Canada that can get labor market impact assessment (LMIA) and give you an open work permit as well.
2. A visitor visa will not allow you to work in Canada. But in case you get a visa, and you are in Canada, find a company with a good lawyer to change your visa from temporary resident visa to work visa.
3. Depends on how good the company lawyer is in getting the work done.

1.You can apply for an owp based on your spouse after marriage. It will take around 4 months. You will likely struggle to get a TRV with your wife in Canada so you may have to wait until your OWP is approved.
