Nova Scotia MSI for landed immigrant

Hi folks,

my mother will be landing in Toronto and then will be flying to Halifax immediately after (landing formality will be at Toronto airport).
My question is: will her MSI (nova scotia health card) be effective as soon as she lands? or does she have to apply for it first? wondering if i need to buy private insurance to cover her for the first few weeks.

Check online for the requirements for NS

To get the Ontario Health Card you have to apply, and it starts 3 months from when you get your AIP letter.

Nova Scotia provincial medical coverage does not have a waiting period, so she can apply immediately. But she is not covered until she applies (with all the required documentation) and is in NS. Details here:
