We plan to stay as visitors for min 2 months but it can extend to max 5 months. Logically, it would be good to apply for 5 months visa but I do not want to jeopardize our chances of approval by requesting a relatively longer version such as 5 months instead of 2 months.

What do you suggest?

Asking for a 2 month visit will most probably result in a refusal. You would need a spectacular travel history, significant funds available and proof of ties to your home country to get that,. 2 month visa request immediately brings home ties into question.

And just to be clear, the CBSA agent at the border determines how long you get to stay when you arrive.

Can I ask why a two month length of stay might result in refusal? I have read eleswhere that if they have enough in their account to support their costs that are NOT covered by the host in Canada it would be enough. I mean food and lodging by me and only ticket on my invited guest then the guest account for a one month stay can have that much cash and good to go once I provide my account balance proof too.

How long length of stay is then suggested?? less than even a month??

Wanting to visit for more than 3-4 weeks indicates weak ties to the home country + the possibility that the visitor might work illegally (generally speaking)
