Do you think having your member of parliament call the CIC is better to sort out issues?

I don't know if you can reach the IOs by phone however having a MP writing a letter with regard your case may help.

Not to be discouraging but in my recent experience - there is nothing they can do. My Canadian husband's family has several political connections and we have had a friend of the family (an MP who knows Minister Kenney personally) call the CIC and ask them to expedite our application. She did so and was told that there is nothing that can be done and they will not place any applications as a higher priority... even at the request of an MP. If I'm not mistaken, I think she called Mr. Kenney's office directly.

From what she (the MP) has told us, this is a new development and she has successfully requested expedited applications for others in the past but the rules have changed recently and this is no longer possible.

Anyway, I guess you could contact someone if you'd like but I am inclined to think that there is nothing they can do because of my experience above. :(

Whaat? Of course having a MP supporting your application won't make it be processed faster, it would be unfair for those without that support but it CAN HELP in others different ways.

that makes me happy. i would be very upset to know that someone had their application fasttracked because they had a personal connection to the minister of immigration! your application has only been in process for a short time, why should you go to the front of the line?

from what i understand, MPs are able to step in when the normal processing time for your visa office has passed.

I dunno about your MP but we've been dealing with ours for the last 5 years and its always been the same answer. they CANT do anything to expidite an application, not a thing. All they can do is make enquiries on your behalf, they cant even specifically ask for anything other than whats happening with the application. The only time in 5 years our MP was able to get any movement on anything was after my application had processed. She emailed the head of the local CIC here to see if they could give me a landing timeline as i had to make arrangements to make a 3 day visit to my home country to visit terminally ill relative. In that case she was able to get landing date for me, how she told it to me is she couldnt ask for a date, but she could make the officer aware of the situation and see if they had any timeline for when they expected i would land. As it happens i was fortunate and the officer booked me in right then and there. So i dont know about the recent change thing its been like that for the last 5 years for us.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood what we are talking about here. I have seen several people recently suggest that someone contact their MP when the process is taking too long so I thought I'd share my story. I totally understand what you guys are saying but when everyone's telling you this can definately help make it go faster and they've done it many times before who wouldn't jump at that chance, really :p It would be unfair for someone to get ahead for no reason but then again people are delayed for no reason too so, whatever.

I see it more as a character reference. You know, the MP can vouch that we're not frauds or criminals. That sort of thing. *shrug* The idea behind contacting an MP is that their word might be considered to carry more weight than yours, correct?
But yeah, they can't do that anymore.. if they ever did.

So that being the case.. As for getting things straightened out when there is a problem with your application - I'd guess that having them call would be the same or similar as calling yourself.

YES! My MP emailed immigration and they responded the next day. The problem is that the RCMP hadnt sent the criminal record check to immigration yet, so immigration emailed them about it. If you think something is wrong I would try it. It wont hurt.

Yup MP can send request for imformation directly to the CIC office. They can ask questions, they cant ask them to speed up. But usually the asking questions is enough to make someone take notice. If it's taking an excessive amount of time MP can ask why, and usually thats enough to get the ball rolling. Complicated thing but it definitly can help in some ways but it cant expedite the "normal" process. If your application is being processed normally thats just the way it is.

I'm a single father and have sponsored a nanny to help me take care of my 2 kids ages 7,9. This week the girl I hired got unfairly rejected on the grounds that she could not do the job as required. A local (Indian and non-Canadian) person interviewed her and asked her about her skills as a nanny and she promptly replied in good English. The girl that I selected has more than 4 years experience as a dedicated nanny compared to most nanny school graduates who have 0-6 months of experience and are only interested in coming to Canada. By putting local Indians in a decision making position the High Commission is creating a situation for corruption and I have a feeling that she was rejected because she didn't go through the right agent who are probably connected to the embassy.

I have 2 businesses that I run and balance that by taking care of my kids and its very difficult to manage the kids. All of our papers are in order. I will be visiting my MP tomorrow to see what happens.

Are you trying to hire a live-in care giver? This section is for family class sponsorship. May be post your feedback there.

I don't know the minimum requirement for live-in care giver. Hopefully your MP can help to clarify that.
