Visitor Visa Medical Query

Hi everyone,

I am almost three months into applying for permanent residency and I just received my visitor extension today. A bit of background, my original work permit expired Mar 30, 2018, so I applied for a six month visitor extension to make sure my status is still legal until a new work permit is issued.

I received confirmation that my visitor visa had been approved last week and the official document arrived in the post today. I noticed at the bottom of the document under observations, it states:

MUST UNDERGO IMMIGRATION MEDICAL WITHIN 30 DAYS. FORMS HAVE BEEN EMAILED/MAILED SEPARATELY.

I have yet to receive those forms and strangely and my online status for the application never mentioned needing the medical. I have included a copy of my online status below.

I guess my question is two fold, I have no problem organizing the medical to make sure I do not void my status, but I was wondering if it is necessary if the online account does not mention it and no further paperwork was received? Secondly, if I am required to do the medical, will the results count for the PR application too or will a second medical need done.

I appreciate that every circumstances are different and appreciate you taking the time to read my post :) Thank you in advance for any insight or advice you can provide.

Hi

Yes, it is necessary to complete the medical or your extension will no longer be valid.

Yes, you can use the medical for your PR app as well.

That is what I thought. Thank you very much for help. I booked the appointment ahead of time before the paperwork arrives. :)

Hi all,

A little update to hopefully save anyone from unnecessary anxiety if this happens to you. I applied for a six month visitor visa to extend my stay in Canada as a safety precaution encase my inland PR application and OWP application were returned for any reason. Thankfully they were not, but I am still glad I took this measure.

It took over two months for the application to be processed but two weeks ago the status changed to approved and stated that no medical was required. When my document arrived however, under Observations, not Conditions, it stated that I needed an immigration medical in 30 days. No other paperwork and no emails.

I booked with an approved doctor in Victoria BC, to be safe and tried to call CIC to get clarification and peace of mind. When I spoke with the CIC representative, he said there appeared to be no record of paperwork being sent out and advised me to cancel the appointment and wait for clarification from the case processing center. He stated that it may have been a mistake on the actual document. I received an update today that the visitor document was invalid, my status was still approved and valid and that they were sending out a replacement.

I just wanted to share my experience to stop anyone from worrying unnecessarily. I found the CIC representative very helpful and he really saved me a lot of anxiety. :)
