Hi,

I am a bit confused here and need help. Question is not the usual- how much does the spelling of parents name matter? The spelling of my dad's name is different in my passport (v in spelling instead of w). I am applying under family class -husband is the sponsor.

What spelling (dad's) should I write in my application? Should it be as per my passport or per per my dad's document? Will I be asked for his documents?
Also, if I write my dad's name as is written in my passport, will it be an issue if I plan on sponsoring him in future?

Not sure if i got you correctly......you want to apply for spousal sponsorship and your husband is the sponsor .....and you are still using your maiden name as Surname (i.e., your dad name).

In application forms you are required to fill your Surname as is in your travel passport.

Your dad's name on your passport and as in your dad's documents which is correct ?

What name do you have in your own documents, your dad's name as in passport or as in your dad's documents ?

If your dad's name in your travel passport is not spelt correctly.........why not go get a new passport to fix it......and use the correct name in your application.

You don't need to submit a copy of your passport with your spousal sponsorship application......but must ensure your send a copy later to IRCC before your visa is issued or is finalized.........Refer.......Checklist.

Note: Although you do not need to have a valid passport or travel document when you submit your application, you must have a valid travel
document or passport to be able to travel to Canada and to be admitted for permanent residence.

It is dad's given name that is spelt wrong. Getting new passport might take time and we don't to delay it. So, I was hoping to find out if the spelling of his name would be a problem. If I won't be needing his documents then can I apply for changes later?

If i got you correctly, its your dad's given name that is spelt wrong in your dad's passport......if that's correct....you are not required to submit your dad's passport or his documents for a spousal sponsorship application.

When filling the forms, enter your dad's correct given name........but will advice you later ask your dad to go get a new passport with his correct name.......because you have filled the form with his correct name which will be in IRCC system and will be used if you were to later sponsor him or he applies for any visa to Canada.

Not an issue for your app. Use his correct name in the forms and include a letter of explanation about the incorrect spelling in your passport.

Not sure what you are talking about. Her father's name will NOT be on her COPR and visa.

My COPR (record of landing document) had my my full name (surname and first name).

The CBSA officer checked my passport, the visa, record of landing and put a stamp on my record of landing document and welcomed me to Great Canada.

She is talking about her father's first name (or referred as given names). (It's incorrect in HER passport.)

I don't think any of my PR document has my father's name. And as a reference, most people do not have their parents' names on their passports....

So for OP, just use the correct name in the application.

Nothing has changed. As stated in the first post, this is a spousal sponsorshp app and OP's father's given name will not appear on her COPR and visa.

You are really over-complicating this situation.

Thanks for the clarification........just realized its the given name not surname..........her fathers first name will only be filled in the form but not appear in her COPR or visa.

And my earlier comment.

The father's passport is correct. The error is in the OP's passport.
