Hi All.
Thanks for that. I seem to be confused. When we landed at the point of entry, they took our CoPR (handed over the envelop as was delivered to us after our OR was approved. I can't quite remember if it had photos attached to it). Unforunately, it was a Saturday and the section for PR card application was closed. So we could not apply for the cards at the airport.
On the 12th of February, we went to service Canada in Scorobough and applied for our PR card. The officer requested for a signed COPR (no photo attached) and our passport copies. At the end of the application, the officer gave us a piece of paper with our SIN number stated on it. He assured us that our PR cards will be mailed to the given address.
Are you saying the process for PR card application is different from SIN application for newcomers?.
Thank You,
Bernadette
Hey Bernadette,
The PR card application is part of your landing, when you land and give your canadian address to the immigration officer, the PR card process automatically kicks off and normally people receive their pr card within 2 months. But sounds like where you landed ( may be a smaller airport?), they didn’t have 24 hours immigration officers who take care of PR card application as part of landing. Probaby thats why you had to visit a service ontario for pr card application, in most of the cases people don’t have to visit service ontario for PR card, I visited service ontario for my sin and health insurance card.
Process for getting SIN is different from PR card, SIN is your social insurance number which is needed by your employer and many other things like availing social security from the government.
If you are not able to link your pr card application to mycic, you can call them to know the status, they normally send photo request letter to the address you provided. So keep any eye on your mailbox.
