Hi,

I am planning to get engaged to a foreign citizen in India and wondering if I can sponsor her after I get my PR and if we can get married in Canada and register our marriage there.

Or do we both get married in India first and then I sponsor her to Canada as my spouse?

Please help me clarify the process.

If you want her to come to Canada directly as a PR, you will need to get married first and then sponsor her as PR.

She can get a Visitor Visa to come to Canada, get married and you can sponsor her for PR then.

So basically, you have to be married first.

Ok. So when I get my PR, I come to Canada, then she comes as a visitor and we get married in Canada and then I sponsor her PR? Also, how long do you think that process will take because she will be on a visitor visa and that might end before the process is finished.

About 80% of the applications are being processed within a year.

So, if her application is in process can she stay there? I am just confused about what if her visitor visa ending date is before the completion of the process?
Having a sponsorship application in processing does not give her the right to remain in Canada.
