Hi guys! My graduate program is of 16 months duration. Can anyone please tell me for how long will I be granted work permit? If its lesser than three years is it possible to extend the work permit for some period before applying for PR?

How it works is that immigration will follow the number of years for your program as recommended by your college or university in the graduation letter.

If you did 2 programs within 16 months and each program is equivalent for 1 year (2 semesters to graduate) and your school states that in the graduation letter then most probably you will get a 3 year work permit.

Hi, don't know whether this is the right place to ask about EE. But I'll share my plan, let me know whether this will work out. I already posses a bachelors degree with one year experience in Sri Lanka. Since my crs is not enough to meet the current threshold, I'm planning to follow a postgraduate certificate course in Canada. So my plan is,

To follow one year course from Jan 2019.
I'll completed my studies by Jan 2020, so that I can apply for PGWP for one year.
By Jan 2021 my PGWP will get expired while my crs will boost to nearly 520.
My questions are,
1, After Jan 2021, I'll be creating my EE profile, so do I need to return to my home country until I receive my PR? Becoz, my PGWP will be expired by then.

2, If a job offer boosts my CRS, still do I need a LMIA, even though I have worked under PGWP (is there any exception like, if I worked under PGWP there is no need for LMIA)

Guys who had applied prior to Mar 19, please update us whether you guys got your PGWP or not? On CIC it states that they're working on applications received on Mar 19th, so if anyone of you who had applied prior to this date & received his/her PGWP, please share it in this thread. Thanks!

Hey igorsmith, make sure that when you apply for your partners open work permit that you already secured an NOC 0, A, or B job. If not, there is a high percentage that your partner's application will be automatically rejected.

It is easier for study permit holder to renew their partner's work permit when they are in school. It is automatic when your study permit is valid, but once you graduate it is a new ball game.

You can only apply for partner's work permit if PGWP holder has the required NOC job.
Thanks for you answer! I got a job NOC A but I am still waiting for response...

Hi,
Can anyone please help me?
I applied for pgwp online but I’m not able to start working since there was an error on my study permit conditions (which I wasn’t aware of until recently when I tried to extend validity of my SIN).
I called CIC and they said that applying for amendment of the study permit would also take the same time as the result of the pgwp.
Is it possible to try and get the work permit at border even with an online application given my case? Is it worth to try at the border?
I’m afraid the company that offered me a job would not be able to wait for the work permit.
Thank you in advance.

1. Are you sure you will reach 520? Seems high can you post the calculator results from the official website. I believe you will have to leave if you don't have any legal status in Canada.

2. You still need LMIA.

Hallo,
can anyone tell me can i apply for PGWP if i attended private college?
School needs to be on this list with the Offers PGWP-eligible programs column as YES.
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare/designated-learning-institutions-list.html

Having said that, there are people from non-eligible schools who have received PGWP in the past, this is probably a mistake from the immigration officer. I am not sure if there is any harm in applying other than cost.
