Hi
We are in the process of applying to high school international program in Vancouver for my son who is 17. The school district has said they their homestay program is full. I have a Canadian Citizen cousin who lives close to the school and who is happy to provide accommodation for my son for the whole year. We are also officially appointing this cousin as the custodian for my son during his time in Canada. Can you please help me with the below questions:
1. If we agree that the cousin is providing full board for free to my son: when applying for student permit ( we are outside Canada) what documents should we provide? Is it enough for the cousin to send her financial documents and a letter stating that she will host my son? Is this the same as "sponsoring" my son??! ( we as parents are paying for the tuition and other expenses) This cousin has already sponsored a visitor's visa for another relative and that is why we were wondering if she can also write a letter to say that she will provide accommodation and foo to my child? or would this be considered as sponsoring two people at the same time.
2. If hosting my child is equal to sponsoring and if she is not allowed to sponsor more than one person at the time, then we are willing to pay her for providing full board to my child, similar to a homestay. In this legal? Do we need to sign a contract? As a minor can my son stay with this cousin if we as parents sign the contract or does the cousin need to go through security checks, etc?
