Hello all,

I just have a few questions regarding the travel insurance once you submit your working holiday visa, thank you all in advance for the help

1) I was looking online and as I am from the UK I read that world nomads was a really good website and was looking at the covers but I noticed that I can’t go beyond May of 2019, how would I be able to get 2 years worth of insurance?

2) and also when getting insurance do you pay the whole cost up front or can you pay monthly?

3) Would it also make a difference if I were to go to Canada before I get the POE letter and while in Canada get the letter and buy the insurance from there it would the prices be different and would there be any issues in doing that?

4) final questions as state in question 3 I’m going to be seeing my gf in Canada as my flight was already booked before I get the POE letter, should I just speak to the officers there as if I’m coming there for the 6 months to see my gf or mention I’m waiting for the POE letter as I am worried that would look suspicious this part is really scaring me and stressing me out as I plan on flying on the 5th May and all the stress is getting to me

Thank you for the responses and help I really do appreciate it all

1)look at True Traveller as well given they do 2 year policies with no issue on return home trips. Cover for 2 years risk is never going to be cheap but ensure read about any cover for hazardous activities you might want to cover. Sometimes they can be added later so could be possible to go basic initially.

2)monthly payments do not work for travel insurance unfortunately , is an all upfront business model if nothing else to ensure a client stays insured. One missed payment whilst travelling could result in mortgage sized medical payments if any issue. Travel insurance is notoriously difficult as it is to get a payout without adding in a debate on keeping up payments.

3)you need to read the small print as some insurance companies will not issue a policy for a client already travelling. Prices are probably no different . True Traveller believe insure if already travelling not sure about Nomads. And upto 2 years.

4)think I answered this one else where CBSA will have no knowledge of your IEC application until a POE has been issued.

Given you are visa exempt when asked about purpose of visit just tell CBSA you are visiting your girlfriend do not complicate things by saying you are waiting for POE that worst case you might not even get.

No guarantee that you get a default 6 months but the more questions you create the odds could go one way or other. About your intentions. Only answer questions asked do not volunteer information such as a pending IEC application. If you got a default 6 months on previous visits that could be a indicator but of course still no guarantee.

Above is my view so hopefully others will chip in as well

Okay thank you so much for that so just to confirm if I’m already in Canada truetravellers will be able to insure me?

And also would it be cheaper if I pay for 1 year then pay separately for another year or just do the 2 year together?

Thank you for you response and help I will go there as originally planned without complicating things I really do appreciate the help
