I have a 3 years visitor visa for Canada (to expire in 2020) and I have been to Canada 2 times in the past. I am soon applying for a student permit as I am planning to start my Masters in September. should I also apply for another type of visa or a study permit will be enough? Which visa would I apply for?

Assuming it is a multi entry TRV all you need to do is to declare somewhere in your study permit application that you have a TRV. It’s the TRV that allows you to travel to Canada in conjunction with the study permit.

Yes, I currently hold the V-1 Multiple entries. I forget to mention that my master's program requires a co-op placement in the second year to complete the program!

You also need to get the TRV-Student because when you come to Canada, your main purpose is as a student and not as a visitor.
