Hello all,

I just have one question in terms of my working holiday visa, i recently just got accepted for the working holiday visa and will be ready to submit everything however i know it takes a few weeks until i get the port of entry letter however i have had a flight booked for the 5th May as my original plan was to come to Canada for 6 months as i am from the UK.

1) My question is can i still go to Canada while everything i getting processed will there be any issues when i enter Canada and should i still go on the one way ticket and explain that i am visiting my gf but i have also have the working holiday visa being processed, is that okay to say or will they deny me entry

2) And also when im there can i just got to the border to activate my port of entry visa?

3) And what would be the best thing to do in terms of the visitor visa while waiting, should i get a return ticket as i am really confused what would the officers say?

pls help i really do appreciate all the help

1)generally not advisable to arrive with a one way ticket as a visitor and getting an invite will be invisible to CBSA so that won’t sway one way or the other.

Airline may not even allow you to board with a one way either as a visitor depends how conscientious checkin is, although they will look for an ETA.

Decision is yours CBSA may let you in with a restricted short stay if you show funds to buy the return not sure they would deny entry impossible to say although unlikely. Without a return a 6 month visitor stay might be a stretch as your intentions might be questioned for sure. As said until a POE is issued CBSA will not know you have an IEC application invite as immigration is different dept.

2)sure you can go to a POE but will still need 2 years travel insurance and proof of 2500 cdn . So this would be insurance fresh (2years validity) from the date you activate not from the date you arrive as a visitor. So you need cover separately for the visitor part. Also note if in Ontario CBSA at the land border with the US were at some point only accepting activation of permits etc Tues/Weds/Thurs.

3)return airfares from the UK are usually more economical to buy than a one way fare, possibly apart from air transat. CBSA often only ask how long you staying , may not even ask if you have a return can all depend what answers you give if they feel need to ask.

For sure only answer questions asked do not volunteer supplementary info, and personally would avoid mentioning IEC unless you had a POE already. If you had a POE already you could enter as a visitor first and activate later, plenty people do that but with just an invite that’s no guarantee you will get a POE.

Ok so should i stick to my original plan then to just do the visitor visa as i have been to Canada before buy the ticket for return in 6 months, and show the officer the letter of invite from my gf with proof of funds etc, and then once i get the port of entry activate it at the airport or the border would that be okay?
