Extension of post graduate work permit procedure after passport renewal

Hello all,

My PGWP is valid only for 21 months because of my passport expiry date. Now I got a new passport and I want to apply to extend my work permit. I read other threads regarding PGWP extension but I could not find a clear answer. I would be thankful if you help me with my questions.

1. Can you guys share your experience with PGWP extension and tell me how I have to apply (online or by mail), and how long the process would take? (Some people mentioned that their online application refused because for extension, they were supposed to apply by mail!!!)

2. On the remark section of my work permit, there is nothing but "POST GRADUATE WORK PERMIT". Should my permit contains any other remarks in order to be qualified for extension?

I could be wrong but your remark section of the PGWP should say "further extension upon passport renewal"

The exact answer is in the link below. You will need to apply by mail and don't forget to send a letter to explain your request to get the rest of the 3 years. Also, there should be a special remark but I don't remark that ends with "... ISSUED TO PASSPORT VALIDITY". Anyway, if you know that you are eligible for a 3 year PGWP, go for it. Good Luck!

I accomplished a master's degree which took 2 years, so I am eligible for a PGWP valid for 3 years. I do not know why my work permit does not have that remark related to extension. However, I am not sure if a special remark is required in order to become eligible for PGWP extension.

No, I applied on mid March by mail and I am still waiting.

Hi, you don't need a remark saying "... ISSUED TO PASSPORT VALIDITY" on tour PGWP. You could've applied online cuz it's faster(4 to 6 weeks). Some people will say you can't but actually you can do it but you have to follow the same steps as your initial PGWP.
I studied 2 years and received only one year of PGWP due to my passport validity. I applied online for an extension on 1st of April and still waiting.

My work permit was issued for 2 years and 6 months because of my passport expiry date. Now my permit expires on May 22 and I haven’t heard anything back, I applied on April 11th.

I saw some people saying it was possible to apply online so that’s why I did it but did you confirm with anyone if it was okay?

I’m just worried because I’m waiting to get my ITA, my score is 439 and I think until October (Where my PGWP should’ve expired) I’ll get one so I need it.

Anybody experiencing the same?

Hey, according to the processing times at this time(if there's no changes on the coming days) you will hear back from them on the week of 28th this month. For your situation you have to contact CIC by phone or an immigration lawyer and explain everything cuz you should have a remark saying you must leave Canada by the date of PGWP expiration.
PGWP extension is okay if you apply online. I know many ppl did the same.

i am in the same pool. i apllied by mail on 12th may 2018. still waiting. even my workpermit didnt had any remark.i called cic agent and they said officer has remarked in their online data base. please let me know your update

My situation is getting complicated. My PR is under process(Quebec skill worker category) -(taking longer then usual). I did not know that I will need to renew my work permit as I thought I can work till I get my PR. However, I did not get my full 3 years work permit due to passport expiry. I have renewed my passport. I have applied my work permit extension after it has expired by paying 200$ for status restoration. ( PGWP expired on May 2018, applied on August,2018). Now waiting for their response. I have explained everything in the explanation letter. They can give me extension on the basis of my PR application or they can give me rest of the duration i deserve from my PGWP. But I am worried that I am still working. Is it mandatory that I should stop working though I deserve 4 more months from my PGWP?
I am also going to apply for PR under Spouse category in few weeks as I got married to a Canadian citizen. But now I am trying to fill up the forms, but do not know which status I put as I have not got my WP yet. Also, in the personal history, should I show that I am still working or I should show that I stopped working after the WP expired.

Can anyone please help? I really need your advice.

I just got my PGWP extended!
Initially, my PGWP was given for 9 months because of my old passport validity. I renewed my passport in Canada and applied for PGWP extension online. I filled the form exactly the same way as I did when I applied PGWP for the first time but I did attach a letter of explanation.
