Hello friends, I am from Mumbai and work as software developer with a total experience of 10 years.

I was doing a self evaluation to check if I qualify under FSWP. I haven't taken the IELTS but I assume I will get at least 18 in CLB.

CLB 18
Education 21 (B.E - Four year degree program)
Experience 15
(1st Employer - 1.6 years
A gap of 6 months
2nd Employer - 1.7 years
A gap of 6 months
3rd Employer - 3.6 years
Current Emplyer - 3.10 years so far
All are full time employment with 43 hours per week
)
Age 12 (Age is 34)
Arrangement employment 0
Adaptability 0

Total - 66

Did I calculate my score correctly specially the Experience points given that I have two gaps of 6 months each?

Yes your calculation is correct! Gap between job experiences doesn't matter as long as your chosen primary NOC experience is at least 1 year continuous long! Try improving your language score a bit to score another point to make it 67. You need to complete Education Credential Assessment (ECA) from an authorized organization such as WES to claim your educational points. And being eligible for express entry is not enough, you have to score very high in Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This year lowest cutoff was 442, make sure you go over or near to that score to fetch an direct ITA.

Minimum L-8, R-7, W-7, S-7 score in IELTS can get you extra skill transferablity points. You have a big minus point in your education as you have only a bachelors degree. try to get another 1 year long diploma. Minimum 2 degrees or masters and minimum 3 years experience combined with above mentioned IELTS score will get you 50 extra skill transferablity points which should take you over 400 CRS points comfortably.

Check CRS points chart-

Check your potential score using this calculator-

Good luck

Thanks Ishq74 for the reply. As, I understand it, if I don't secure at least 19 in CLB I won't be eligible to apply for Express Entry program.

My aim is to work in Canada as a software developer as early as I can. At this point, I am really not sure if I want PR. That's because I really can't predict how life would be there. So my plan is to go there, work for few years and then decide.

Is my approach of applying through express entry program in accordance with my plan?

Can you recommend me the forum section where this kind of information is available?

Thanks.

If you do not want to settle down in Canada then you can go for temporary work permit route. I have not explored that much so cannot give you much insight. You can search the forum "Skilled Worker / Professional Immigration" section. https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/forums/skilled-worker-professional-immigration.4/

You can read more about work permit from official Canadian Immigration website here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/permit/temporary/work-permit-types.html

Good Luck!

Thanks Ishq

One last question on this thread.

I was calculating the CLB score wrong. I thought CLB7 = IELTS 7 which is not the case. With a decent IELTS score I can easily qualify for Express Entry.

My question is, can I fly to Canada and search for a job with just Express Entry admission without receiving an ITA? (Is that a stupid queation? )
