Visitors visa denied in 5 days

hello please help

l am invited to attend a conference in Canada and i had applied for the visitors visa submitted my application on the 26th of March 2018 to the Pretoria office as im in Zimbabwe and got a response on the 3rd of April and was denied on this following grounds


• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your travel history.

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.

im a worried about the travel history as i had included all visa stamps on my passport and they was a time i traveled a lot in the last 7 years cause of my business but it had been mainly in the Southern Africa region only,wanted to know how can improve my situation on the travel history before i reapply

the second reason i have realized i should have stated Business visit instead of tourist visa as i had stated a costly mistake i guess

What you got was a standard response. If you could share some specifics about your application especially your supporting documents that would help in looking at helping you...

1.Letter of invitation
2.my bank statements which showed I have +U$50000
3.confirmation of employment which showed my employer was covering the whole trip and costs involved
4.company registration documents which showed I own company
5.marriage certificate
6.proof of assets as I own two properties 7.My birth certificate to prove my relationship with my brother who is now a Canadian Citizen
8.Travel itinerary,Return ticket and hotel bookings

Did it have any direct link with your job at your company??
Because for CIC, the onus is on you to prove you are a bona fide visitor....

yes it did ..it’s a foundation which has been founded by fellow Zimbabweans living in Canada who seek to Invest in country of origin and I have been selected to chair the branch which in Zimbabwe
I am to visit Canada and give a presentation on the on the current situation and advise the foundation as how they mission can be best achieved

On my itinerary I had included visiting my brother and spending time with his family ...
My stay was 10 days with one day for the conference....
My mistake on the purpose of visit I had stated tourism as I would have spent greater time sight seeing and I had included that in my itinerary

IMO, you did not prove that you have a purpose to visit whether it was for tourism (to meet your brother) or even to attend the conference. You can have a dual purpose of visit.

There is a problem in the way your visit is being paid for :
You own the company/foundation that's paying for the visit + this foundation is founded by Canadians of Zimbabwean-origin. And, this is probably the key reason why you were refused.

Also, you own the company/foundation = You are the employer. But you have incorrectly indicated as if you have some other employers. Does your foundation have other key personnel? Does your foundation have a website and evidence of the work done? Can you include evidence of the work that you are doing in Zimbabwe for this foundation? Any government grants? Professional memberships? etc etc etc

To have any chances of approval, you would need to ensure that you have exceptionally strong ties/strong work and personal commitments to return home to.... otherwise it could seem like you would be visiting to illegally work for the Canadian founders/foundation.


My suggestions:
1. For the conference: Invitation letter from the conference organizers with their 24/7 contact details + the scheduled agenda + 1-2 emails between the conference organizers and yourself + conference venue booking receipts + conference website pages.

As the event is just for one day (and you have not traveled earlier to any visa-required countries), you would also need to demonstrate why it is imperative to attend the conference in person vis-a-vis video/similar types of conferencing.

2. From your "employer": Letter authorizing you to attend the conference + the company/Zimbabwean branch of the foundation's bank statement + Zimbabwean foundation's tax returns + provisional hotel booking (for that one day) + provisional flight bookings.

3. For the personal visit: Invitation letter from your brother + copies of his immigration status + his NOA/bank statement (if he wants to provide these financial documents)

4. For your employment: Employment letter + leave approval letter + 3-4 months salary slips + bank statement to prove salary payments + 1-2 work commitments to return to with evidence....

But again, as you own the company/foundation, you won't be paid salaries. Note sure how you will prove your income in this scenario.

5. For your personal ties: Copies of your spouse's passport/any proof that you live at the same address + valuation of your properties and supporting documents to confirm the valuation is in line with the market indicative rates + property tax receipts + council or local tax receipts

6. For your finances: Is the CAD 50,000 your personal finances or company/foundation finances? If it was earned by you, did you include any tax returns? Also, hopefully, nothing was borrowed/transferred between your bank accounts and it matches your declared sources of income.

If this CAD 50,000 is company money then are you authorized to use company money for a visit which is mostly for personal reasons? If yes, then what is the financial limit? Do you need authorization from co-founders to use company money?

7. For your travel history: An explanation in reverse chronological order..... visa details + each entry/exit date + purpose of each visit + scan any visa-required countries (not countries in Africa)

8. You should also prepare a detailed day-by day itinerary for the remaining visit with expense estimates.... and prove you can afford this itinerary with personal finances
