How far am I for my application?

Hi, I hired an immigration attorney to help with my filing for Canada. But so far, all he gave me was a job bank account and a CIC account which I was not allowed to access recently. Me and my wife has already submitted most of our documents through his office.

Currently, me and my wife, we're only waiting for her job bank and cic account. And all our immigration attorney has told us is to try and find work through the job bank to try and hasten our application. It has been 2 years since we filed and we haven't received our ITA yet. Just curious, for those who are already in Canada and processed their docs this way, how far are we? Me and my wife, we're both from the Philippines by the way, and we both work in the IT field. I'm a DBA/Programmer and she's more into the IT management and security.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds exactly like my story. I hate to break it to you, but since I went through this exact same thing, I know this attorney is putting absolutely zero effort in your case. You have to look for PNPs. Plenty of opportunities in the IT field for PNPs. I got to Canada two years ago when I dumped my consultant after I found the new Ontario PNP and she said I didn't qualify...but I knew I did. If you DIYed earlier, you would have been here by now too.

You can try your luck looking for jobs through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot, which are LMIA-exempt in parallel with your Express Entry efforts. LMIA is the biggest hurdle faced by Canadian employers in hiring foreign workers without legal status in Canada...they don't want to do it because it's expensive and time-consuming. Maybe your lawyer had been hoping you would also bring him an employer client for an LMIA application.

You may have to renew your IELTS scores since they're valid for two years. CELPIP also recently became available in Manila, and you may be able to book a date sooner if you're based in Manila.

You'll have to research on the availability and qualifications of PNPs. A lot of them are open without job offers, but you'll have to act fast because of the popularity and competition.

Hi,
It seems that you have paid the agent whole amount and now he's enjoying a vacation. You should have following information with you before you file for ITA:

CRS Score (the last draw was 26 March 2018 with CRS of 446)

If it is less than that (446) then you may have to look for PNP (provincial nomination). Generally, people with scores less than 430 looks for PNP. Check each province which will help you to select provinces where your NOC is listed as an occupation in demand (OID as fondly said). Based on this only u will decide your next course of action.

Agents are not that good. They don't help you.

Keep checking the crs trend, which will help you strategize the next step.

Hope it helps.

Try this tool to know your CRS

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

If you have 440+ then I suggest you dump your consultant and apply on your own. It seems complicated but it is not actually.

I’ll be checking back on this forum regularly, so you can ask me here, and honestly, this forum will be of bigger help than I can. Some significant things have changed since I applied, and I’m not updated on the current PNPs anymore. I couldn’t even help my own sibling with their Ontario PNP last year because so much had changed. Good luck.
