Sponsoring my brother

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of applying for Residency and am currently waiting on the results of my educational assessment from WES. I would like to add my younger brother to my application as he is below the age of 18 and our father passed away so he is depandant on me. However he turns 19 in June. What would happen in the following circumstances:

1) Assuming I apply on time and get an ITA before his 19th birthday say on May 30, and he is turning 19 in a couple of days would I be able to include him in an application?

2) Assuming I get an ITA earlier and submit the application before his 19th birthday but do not get a result by the time of his birthday would my application be rejected?

3) Do I have any other options of sponsoring him?

The age for your relative will be assessed for eligibility based on how old they were at the specific point in time the application was received, the lock-in date, even though your relative’s age may change during processing.

Depending on your circumstances, there are two options you can consider for sponsoring......Option 1: orphaned close relatives......Option 2: other relative

You cannot include him as a dependent in your application.

It's possible you may be able to sponsor him later - or he may have to qualify to immigrate on his own.

Is your mother still alive?

EDIT: Based on your previous posts, your mother is still alive. Since that's the case, you can only sponsor your brother as a dependent in your mother's sponsorship application (he must be below 22 years old at the time the application is received). To qualify to sponsor your mother, you must have worked in Canada for three years in a row and made enough income to meet the requirements to sponsor. You must also have been selected out of the parent / grandparent sponsorship lottery.

Thank u for the response. Yes my mom is still alive

He'll have to qualify to immigrate on his own.

You cannot include him in your application since he's not classified as a dependent.

Once you've lived and worked in Canada for a few years, you'll be able to sponsor your mother. However by then, your brother will be too old to be included in her application.

Again, he'll need to apply on his own once he has a few years of work experience and more education.
