Need help with applying for work permit while express entry in progress

Hi All,

I am currently in USA on H1b and i have been in express entry pool from past 2 months. Now my employer is asking me to raise Work permit as they foresee an opportunity in Canada. Since i did express entry on my own i do not want to disclose to my employer that i am already in Express entry pool as they may then ask me to wait till my express entry is approved. On the other hand i also do not want to put my work permit in trouble as while background check for my work permit my employer might get to know i am already in the express entry pool. Can anyone please help on what are my options in this case.

Please note my CRS score is at 398 and chances of getting an ITA are very low looking at current rounds of invitations.

i would do this, withdraw EE profile since with 398 getting ITA is currently not possible..
Apply for Work-permit and move to Canada for Work..
Wait for 1 year and apply under CEC , with Work permit hopefully you can ask Offer letter from employer to get 50 more points and 1 year Canadian year experience will automatically get another 35 points..

Just in case if i want to keep my EE as is. what should be my answer for the question in Work permit forms that says " Have you perviously applied to enter or remain in Canada". I see in some forums i should answer "No" as i have not got an ITA yet. But want to make sure i am not messing up my chances og getting Work permit and PR.

Hi, singhma3 did you fill up your work permit form, are you going to mention YES or NO for " Have you previously applied to enter or remain in Canada", and if you mention yes and have not received any ITA should we mention the EE profile number.

The EE profile is only an expression of interest. You only become an applicant when you submit e-APR or electronic application for permanent residence.

Answer is No if you haven’t received ITA and submitted the eAPR and no previous applications for visitor, student, or any other visas.

Thats great! how long is the processing for the work permit? It doesnt affect your express entry profile right? You leave it as is?

Process was about a month from the date of submitting completed application. Will it effect or not may vary from case to case. My wp was filed by my employer so all I had to do was fill the forms. So not really sure on the process
