Hello everyone
I just apply for citizenship.
Pleay anyone tell me how long it's take to process?
I applied for my wife and me.
My wife applying 2nd time. So is there anyhope to get earlier response from citizenship department?
There is no set time for processing of any one specific citizenship application.
Having an earlier application is not likely to speed up her (or your) application.
The only official commitment from IRCC is that 80% of routine applications will be processed within 12 months; the most recent time period for which we have information they succeeded in processing 90% of all applications in that time frame. There have been thousands of extra applications with the changes after Bill C6. We don't know if there is an impact on processing times as a result of that influx of applications yet.
There is a spreadsheet maintained by volunteers on this forum (
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16cfQUVB3j56QktacolbsAxpNlOrvk2uFGZzm_ZFCnfg/edit#gid=671336796) to keep track of applications that have been submitted. There are a limited number of data points in it, as it's based on people here reporting their information, so it can
at best be a rough indication of what to expect.
Don't focus on how slow or fast other people's applications have gone, as there is quite a bit of variability from one application to the next. Sit back, relax, read the study guide for your citizenship test once or twice (and then re-read it when you get your invitation for the test), and wait. You'll get your invitation in due time.
(The visible parts of the application process are:
- delivery date, if have a delivery confirmation from courier or XpressPost
(Once you receive AOR -- see below -- you can see this date online as well)
- "Acknowledgement of Receipt" (AOR) is what you'll receive (by email if you provided an email address) once your application has been checked for completeness. Once you have this you can check your application status online, using IRCC's ecas system (https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/introduction.do?app=ecas). The online system will not be available until 24-48h after you receive this email.
- "In Process" (IP) (no confirmation is sent for this; this is visible only in ecas)
- Invitation to the citizenship test (the test is followed by a short interview during which your documents are checked)
- Decision Made (DM) (no confirmation is sent for this; this is visible only in ecas)
- Invitation to the citizenship ceremony
If IRCC wants extra information (proof of presence, fingerprints,...) they will send you a request for that information; some requests will show in ecas, some won't. They can come at any time during your application process. Some such requests will slow down your application, others seem to have little impact. We know there are background checks (criminality check, security clearance, and others), but those are not visible to applicants. Do note that being invited to the test does not mean that the background checks are complete.
