Hi,

Is Manitoba a good province for international students? I have learnt that Winnipeg has a long and cold winter. Would the climate be too harsh if I am to study there?

If someone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Sure, yes.. Manitoba is a good povince for international student to study, there are certain more advantages to benefit ( like bolstering chances of getting a work experience and PGWP after studies)

The climate shouldn't be a problem cause most people with certain poor health are there too so...

I am a prospective student of U of M too, for the Sept 2019 intake

I studied at U of M from 5 years, and currently working with a PGWP. It used to be a great advantage for international students can get after graduate (i.e., tuition fee tax rebate) but they abolished it :(
The transit system is horrendous, it is definitely a car city. If you take busses, you definitely have to experience standing in the cold (-40 degree celsius) for at least 10 mins..
But I think the benefits outweigh the costs. Welcome to Friendly Manitoba!

Do you think Manitoba is saturated with many international students that they might tighten their laws in the next few years? (abolish things like PGWP)

@Asdx66 to the best of my knowledge, rules are there to be changed but if the worst should happen like abolishing PGWP, the government must always replace it with a substitute that would also suit preference.

It is almost impossible for them to do bro.. the country are benefiting from the international students through PGWP as well as the International students are benefiting from the country if not it would have been scrapped long time ago

Sure my email is kennychee23@outlook.com

To be frank, the country NEEDS immigrants especially who graduate from Canadian education system. So I am pretty sure they will not abolish PGWP although there are major changes in MPNP so better check it out if you are to apply MPNP after you graduate

Correct. Personally I don't think they would abolish PGWP because PGWP is a nation-wide policy for international students in Canada- it's a jurisdiction of the federal government, not the provincial government. Don't forget that Canada is reaping the benefits brought by the influx of international students. They want students to stay.

How's Steinbach ?
I am gonna study in Steinbach .

I know it's way too small compared to Winnipeg . What are my options if I stay in Winnipeg and commute to Steinbach , couldn't find much on public transport .

Steinbach is like a german community. Most people there are of German descendant. I think the only choice of commuting is probably driving.

I've stayed there for 2 weeks last summer for vacation. That's what I observed- in Steinbach almost no one commutes by public transit. To travel to and back from Winnipeg if you live in Steinbach, the most convenient and cost-effective way is driving.
Thank You ,
I'll let you know if I need more info on Winnipeg .
