Hi, I recently got selected to sponsor my parent for 2018. When I initially applied I didn’t notice the income requirements. I just have one applicable year income. My question is; can I keep and save my selection for two years and apply in two years?
Thank you.

Others can comment as well but probably not , you would need to take your chances again in 2 years time. Always important to read all the requirements thoroughly but guess you know that now.

Samti you must have declared that you meet income requirements on the interest to sponsor application form in order to submit the interest to sponsor. So you do meet income requirements. Otherwise how did they accept your interest to sponsor form. Don't they check your income before selecting you?

Don't let this opportunity go to waste.

BIG NO. When u submit the interest form, they don't verify anything. You can put whatever you want. First time they will ever check anything is when u send them documents. You will be found ineligible at that point. You will end up losing time and may be money. You will also waste Immigration Officers time. However, if you are a Quebec resident, then 1 yr income is OK.

And No they don't check income before sending this invitation. This is completely a lottery/randomly selected system where you self declare your eligibility. In order to check your eligibility in this case, IRCC would have to go through 100000 or more interest forms to merely choose 10000 or 6000 forms(Very inefficient for them)

This is self declared. His eligibility is not being verified at this stage
So why are people allowed to make false declarations with no repercussions which disrupt the system and rob others of a spot?

Sorry. I guess it's just part of having the fair system. There is no need to tell people they are idiots. It's all about being fair.

Let Samti decide what he wants to do.

Situations can change in between lottery and finally applying. For example someone may meet LICO at time of lottery so properly answers YES and submits lottery form. But then in next month they may get separated and lose their co-signer, may have a child, parents may get a new child, etc etc to increase family size and suddenly make them ineligible based on income. But they still filled in the lottery form correct at the time.

However in the case of OP here, they simply didn't read the rules properly and wasted a sport. Ideally this would result in a ban from the program for several years, however this is not realistically possible to implement and track such a system.

You are right Rob_TO. I think the system is good though. It gives people many chances to apply. For example it could be also that people did not meet LICO (2017 income) but later think that they can meet LICO. So it works both ways.

Whatever it is the system is extremely kind, accommodating and forgiving. This is good. It means fair and equal opportunity for all eligible or not eligible. I am very thankful to the Trudeau government for this. They recently announced that family reunification is their priority.

I just need to keep applying. I will probably still apply even after my parents have passed away. It is such a thrill to win lotteries! :)

So if you choose no you still enter the lottery?

I think not. So if Samti got selected he picked yes. Meaning he has the required income.

I have not called anyone Idiot and of course Samti decides what he wants. I am only pointing out what will happen as par the guideline on IRCC website.

Applicant obviously got selected because he picked YES. Picking YES ideally should mean the applicant have required income for 3 years [At this point its self declared by the applicant, no one is verifying it].

Now in the first message, applicant is saying he made a mistake and he now realized he doesn't have 3 years income. Because he is saying he doesn't have it, it is pretty clear when he sends his documents and tax papers he will be found ineligible. That's all I am saying.

Edit: This is all for this year 2018. If he just declines the invitation now and reapplies again in 2 year or even reapply next yr as a Quebec Resident (provided he becomes a Quebec resident this year. Quebec applicants are only required to show 1 yr of income) nothing declared in 2018 will affect his ability to get invitation in 2019 or 2020.
