Hi,

I just received my Canadian PR. During my uni days as an international student from 2013 to 2015, I had some OHIP plan where we had to compulsorily pay for health insurance to the university. After that, I never bothered getting one.

Now, I recently got my PR. Do I get free health care if I go to a doctor and show him my PR card?? Do I need to apply for OHIP or anything?? Is there a fee or it will be completely free?

Please suggest.

You had UHIP which is a medical plan for international students in Ontario. 3 months after you landed as PR you qualified for OHIP. You have to go to a service Ontario office. Look online for what documentation you need to bring. Yes it is free. Medications are not covered if not under 25.

What about Doctor visits, xrays, blood tests, eye checkups, etc?

Yes except eye checks for glasses. Optometrists are no covered. If you have an eye disease that is covered. I would start with getting a family doctor.
What about accidents? Hospital charges?

And emergency room visits?
