They did not get close to 10K apps last year. Nothing happened to the spaces that weren't used, they just disappear.
100% :)

That is very disappointing and makes it all seem not worthwhile even trying for PGP. The quota should be filled by all the people waiting who are eligible, there are so many of us trying year after year.. I just don't understand why they don't fill the all the places. This is not a true representation of taking in 10,000 each year. :(

No surprise, as PGP is the least priority of all immigration programs. Just be thankful there's a program at all.

Yes this is the best system currently. It should be ok. All of us will eventually get our parents here under the PGP. It is just a matter of time. Keep trying! Stay positive :)

good luck to everyone!

Shouldn't those with higher income be preferred over others for sponsoring parents if government is concerned about new old immigrants becoming a liability on healthcare system? Or perhaps admit more people than 10000 and create a rule to not offer free healthcare to these people for say initial 5 years of landing?

Thanks to you all, especially the positive comments. It's a difficult process especially when you are older! I wish they would take into account parents who, like us, would be self-sufficient moneywise and would also be prepared to take out private healthcare, again like us. The idea of not being immediately included in the healthcare system would be interesting. We will keep trying. God luck to all.

Has Justin Trudeau ever made a statement about the way this programme is handled, i.e. not using up the quota each year? He seems a good person to have for your leader in Canada - is he aware of the way this system is run ?

Healthcare available to all Canadians and PRs, has absolutely nothing to do with a sponsor's income. Healthcare is paid for by all tax payers in Canada and divided amongst all healthcare users.

Minimum income is just for basic day to day living expenses.

Also no PRs or Canadian citizens (which a PR can become within first 5 years here) will ever be excluded from the healthcare system. This goes against the very fundamental nature of Canadian healthcare. Plus the medical excessive demand criteria, actually projects out 10 years for possible burden to healthcare system.

Many parents with expensive medical conditions would see any private health insurance costs skyrocket, causing many to be unaffordable.

Yes it's interesting, but as stated above it realistically will never happen. Canada will not create 2 classes of citizens/PRs when it comes to basic healthcare.

Lottery is the fairest. Total luck. Who can argue with that? Everyone just stay positive and hope for the best.

I think the odds are still better than Lotto. Although if I win Lotto I'll probably just have parents come over on Supervisa and pay for health insurance. :)

Hi!
Can anyone please help me with my situation !!
I got selected for parents sponsorship last year ( 2017)
family size: 3 ( me, dad, mom)
My incomes:
2016-- 52k
2015--51k
2014-- 51k

I plan to get married 2018, when we are married, i gotta inform CIC, what happens next in term of income? does CIC count my family size : 4 from 2018 or from 2014?Does my wife need to become a co-signed ? ( her income 49k/year). if she is a co-signed , income combine star from 2018 or 2014?
In 2018, my wife will enter lottery for sponsor her parents, I'll be her co-signed, In her application, family size is 6 (her mom, her dad, her, my mom, my dad, me)

What is my family size at that time? 6?
In her application for 2018:
2017: 49k+52K
2016: 49K+52k
2015: 49K+ 51k

in my application:

2014: 51k
2015: 51k
2016: 52k
2017 : 52k + 50k(her income)
or?
2014: 51k
2015: 51k =49k
2016: 51+49k
2017: 52k+ 50k

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could help. I sponsored my parents who live in Peru, and received an email saying that " the Application for Permanent Residence for your relative has been forwarded to the visa office in Mexico for further processing." I was wondering if anyone know what is the processing time, and what to expect from this point forward. Do we need to sent new application forms?

We haven't done any of the medical as no-one has told us. I received a letter in late November from CIC Mississauga asking to start the police clearance, which we are in the process of obtaining.

Thank you very much!!!

After you get married, your family size will just be 4 starting in tax year 2018. Previous years will stay at family size of 3.

It's optional to add your spouse as a co-signer at that time. Keep in mind 2018 income will need to be more than $60K for family size of 4. So better to add your spouse as co-signer just in case your own income is reduced for any reason.

So your wife already applied to lottery in Jan 2018? When exactly do you plan on getting married? Her family size will depend on family size at time app is submitted, so will be 3 or 6 depending if she's married to you by then.

Thank Rob !!
So when I add her as the co-signed in 2018, the combine income start from only 2018 right? 3 Years before don't count?
I meant she will sponsor her family in 2019, sorry!!

Hi All,

I'm posting this message to have better understanding of the 2018 Lottery draw process. The idea is to have a constructive discussion on this topic.

I have applied for my parents in 2018 lottery system & have following questions regarding the draw -

1. How would the 10,000 applications be drawn from the pool? Will it be drawn by human or a computer program?

2. Considering it is a computer based draw, what kind of algorithms would it have?
a) A simple algorithm which picks up every 5th application or every 10th application in the pool?
b) A much sophisticated algorithm which would proportionally distribute 10,000 slots among all provinces? And further within the provinces, all regions will get proportionate distribution?

3. A lot of people have an opinion that applying early in the program increases your chances of success. Is there any logic behind this or its just a myth? I applied towards the end of the application deadline. Does that diminish my chances of success.

I appreciate all insights on this in advance!
Thank you all & Good Luck for the draw.

Here are my 2cents:
  1. By a computer program
  2. It will not have any regional/provincial proportions. Instead in my opinion, it will be random
  3. It should not matter when you register. They run process to eliminate duplicates, and there is no order in the final list. As I understand, system will have no knowledge of applicants applied last time and were unlucky, or got picked up in draw but rejected for criteria, or didn't follow through by submitting the full application for any other reason.
Looks like pure luck to me so best of luck to all of us who submitted their intentions.

What I understood from the instructions
1/ IRCC will remove all duplicates: if you apply more than once, they will remove all of your applications
2/ Once all the duplicates are removed, IRCC will use computer program to randomly pick 10,000 submission confirmation #
3/ Being randomly selected, there is no gain/loss if you apply in the early stage or later stage of the validity period

Here is my question: why does it take IRCC few months to come up with the 10,000-list? With computer-assisted system, IRCC could have done this in a matter of couple of weeks or a month?
