Hi There,

The spellings of my name is different in my degree certificate and on my passport. I have two questions:

1. I am about to apply to WES to get my degree certified and I am not sure if I should create a WES profile with the name on my degree certificate or name on my passport.

2. Once WES certifies my name on the degree certificate I am worried IRCC might reject my application because I will create an express entry profile based on the name on my passport. Will IRCC reject my application because of the spelling difference of my name in my passport and degree certificate.

What is the solution? Will an affidavit work?

Thanks

Express entry profile has to be exactly like on your passport, my name is spelled differently on my documents. I explained it in a couple of sentences in my LOE ("My name is spelled differently due to transliteration from Arabic to English and I'm the same person" etc...) No problems so far for me

Thanks hamgha...but when do you submit the letter of explanation meaning what stage?...also does this mean you created your WES profile as per the name on your degree certificate??? Did you have to submit a letter of explanation to WES or IRCC?

Wes doesn't need to do anything. I sent the explanation to IRCC when submitting my documents post ITA

Oh I see.....great....so you created ur WES account as per ur name on degree certificates and ur express entry profile as per your name in passport right? Is it ok if these two profiles carry names with different spellings?

Yes, like I said earlier I explained it's due to translation to english letters. No problems so far. Most of the problems I believe happen with those where the name is complete different (no last name one, last name on the other, father's name without last name on the third...) If it's a simple spelling issue I believe it can be explained.

Ah I see....great..thanks for being so helpful..but one last concern...the spelling difference makes my name seem entirely different...in.my certificate it is SHIVPRIA SANDESH and passport is SIVAPRIYA SANTHES.
..is this okay? Will a letter of explanation solve the confusion?

it does not matter what name is there in your degree certificate. Mine is completely difference since my father name included in degree (thanks to Gujarat University). But my passport name is not having father name included in my given name/last name. I successfully got mine WES done. Also, I have got my PR immigrant Visa in August and ready to fly. Don't bother mentioning anything after the ITA etc. Don't present the affidavit etc. either. Just make sure that your name for CIC application (during express entry profile creation and later on after ITA) should match exactly as your passport. Hope this help.

Hi brother,
I have a similar query to what you explained. My name on passport is Talha Nadeem, however, my name on education documents is Talha Nadeem Shamsi. So i believe that when i get my ECA report from WES, their report will mention my name as Talha Nadeem Shamsi, which will create a mismatch. Will i need to prove something to IRCC after i get my invitation to apply?
I also thought of putting my name in the WES application as Talha Nadeem, but im afraid that will create a mismatch from the education documents that WES receives and will probably create problems in them providing me the ECA report.
Appreciate your support :)

In your WES upload, give the name as it appears on your passport but send the degree certificate as is. You don’t need to send affidavits or anything. When WES returns the degree equivalency, they will send it back in your passport name. They will add a line at the top that says “one or more degree certificates had a different name from the one above etc.,”

You can explain that in the LOE when you submit to IRCC. But at least this way all your documents are consistently in your passport name.

You can use whatever is on your passport. If the name is just slightly different it shouldnt be a problem. But if it’s different by a lot, WES may not accept it. For example if degree has John D and your name on passport is John Doe, it shouldn’t be a problem. But if it’s Mary on one and John on another it’s gonna be a problem.
