I sponsored my mom ,dad, and my 40 yrs old brother 12 yrs ago ,they got landed in Dec2015.

He doesn't have much education qualification (upto Grade 3),when he came to Canada I registered my brother at Adult Deaf school (Bobrumball) and he is really doing good on his studies now.
Most of the people over there gets OW and ODSP.Now we wants to get those government assistance.Me and school explain to him , he don't understand that,I am responsible for him.

Is there any legal way I can stop him to go after government assistance, because I know if he gets then I need to back to the government.
He is living with me, I dont any money from him and he is working also.

He is trying to break the sponsor, I am willing to help him. Is there any solution for me.

Tks

I'm not sure what the undertaking rules were for parents apps back in 2006, but I think it was 10 years. Also not sure if undertaking for dependents was the same, I've read some undertakings for dependents end when they turn 25 years old.

Regardless, you can't break an undertaking. It's not legally possible. So if he goes on social assistance while your undertaking is still in effect, you will be billed directly (along with your co-signer if you have one), and need to pay the entire amount back.

The only thing you can do to prevent him from going on these programs, is to call each of them and explain the financial support you are already providing to him. If they feel this is enough, they may deem him ineligible for the assistance programs. But if they decide to qualify him and start giving him support payments, there isn't anything you can do about it.
