Hi All,

My current status is American working in Canada under NAFTA. I've been working here since June 2016 and would like to begin the Express entry process.

I considered going through a lawyer, but is there any harm if I fill out the profile myself, then hire a lawyer after I am picked? Is the profile a complicated process or loopholes I have to consider that a lawyer can maneuver through?

Also I have to get my transcript ordered from my college, its an Associates degree in which I understand I need to have assessed. I also did school at another college, but did not complete a degree there, is it worth it to get my transcript ordered from there too to have assessed?

I did the assessment on Canadavisa, and it asks if I have any close relatives such as aunts or cousins, is that considered on the real application?

I want to do it right the first time, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Unless you have a very complicated profile you can do it entirely by your self. This forum can provide any support and inputs you might need in terms of the process. Read up as much as you can and you should be good to go!

Thanks! So...I'm working on getting my transcripts. Is it worth it to get the transcripts from the other college where I didn't complete my other degree? I have an associates with my first college, my second college was "some college". Will I get more points for doing this?

If you check the CIC website:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/become-candidate/eligibility/education-assessed.html

It mentions "completed foreign credential". So, if you haven't completed the course, might be pointless to get ECA done.
