We are moving to Canada later this year and would like my mom to come and visit for a few weeks over the time that our first child will be born. Would my mom have to give proof that she has the finances to support herself while visiting or can we submit some form of documentation stating that we will be purchasing her return ticket and supporting her during visit?

A few points:
1. It's best if your mom applies after you move/settle in. Otherwise it would seem like she is moving with you = Higher chances of a TRV refusal

2. It's not a good idea to say she will be visiting to take care of the newborn = Working illegally on a TRV

3. Yes, for a TRV, your mom must prove she can afford the visit + strong ties to return home to. Your invitation letter can offer to pay for her plane tickets/accommodation/travel and living expenses

Thanks so much for the tips!
