My consultant helped me with the working holiday visa and were waiting for invite but he said will apply your working holiday visa while applying your study permit.(If my name is drawn). I can have study permit and working holiday visa at the same time but he said it doesn't make sense. Why is that?? I’m confused. He said I can keep working holiday approval letter for up to 1 year, so i can switch from my study permit to working holiday visa when i finish my study. What does this mean? Can someone explain to me?

It means that if your WHV is approved you will get a letter valid usually for upto 12 months from date of issue and you must enter Canada within that time frame to activate or lose it. WHV are one time opportunity so it is a use or lose opportunity.

On the other hand when you get a study permit, study in full time education for 8 months or more you can probably get a post grad work permit after you finish studying.

This is probably why you are told doesn’t make sense given fact you could possibly already qualify for a work permit after study so why get a WHV as well unless you just want to have that guarantee when you finish study you still have the option to activate the WHV before the invite expires.

I told him 6 months course not the long term one. He said I can switch from study permit to WHV after I finish the 6 months course. Can I still switch even though I’ll be 31 years old in June? Should we still apply as soon as we get an invite before I turn 31? Or can it be whenever as long as it’s within the 12 months? What would you recommend?
