Hi,

I have a 2 basic questions.

1) Is it mandatory to have a job at hand in India to apply for Canada federal skilled worker program?

2) What about if someone is Self-employed? Can they apply to work in Canada under federal skilled worker program, not business(because it would need a good amount of investment)?

thanks for the help!

I am answering under the belief that you are inquiring about the Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker) program for PR,

1. You don't need a current job to apply, but you need atleast 3 years of work experience in the last 10 years to qualify for FSW.
2. You have to provide proofs to substantiate your employment claim like tax returns, payments from customers etc. If you can provide these, then you can surely apply under FSW.

hey thanks for the reply,

From "payments from customers" you mean if I am self employed I will have to show proof (which I have), right?

If yes, Can I apply for FSW Program to work(not business) in Canada?

P.S: I also have 2.5 years of skilled work experience in a reputed MNC in India.

The FSW program under Express Entry is for obtaining PR and not related to work permit. If you get a PR, then you can of course live and work in Canada. And yes, you have to show the proofs you have, to convince the immigration officer during your PR application.

Okay, that's amazing!

so would my Self-employed experience be counted in my profile?

You can enter it in your profile and should submit proofs after you get your ITA. If you fail to provide enough, then the application will be rejected and may be taken for misrepresentation.

I am still unclear.

Ok, so I worked for a company for 2.5 years and later on I started my own business and running it for around 3 years (I have all the proofs in the world). So when I go there to calculate my CRS there is a question which says "how many years of skilled work experience do you have?"

Can I put 5.5 years (2.5+3 years) of total skilled work experience?
