Hi,

My husband and I have just received an ITA but don't have each other's names on our passports under "spouse name". We have 90 days to submit all docs including the PCC. We were wondering

- Is it mandatory to have each other's names on our passports as spouse? If so, we will have to get new passports issued.
- If that is the case, is it advisable to get the new passports and then apply for PCC? Or will PCCs issued for the old passports remain valid?

Any inputs will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

We also faced the same situation. But my wife's passport was issued after our marriage, so spouse name was there and she got PCC within 15 minutes from PSK. However, my passport was not updated with her name and I didn't get the PCC as per the new instructions in which the representatives at PSK informed that any change in personal particulars should be updated first.

Further, I applied for subsequent day Tatkaal appointment and while in the process one PSK officer informed that those guidelines were modified on the same morning and male applicants can have their PCC without adding the wife's name(For women applicants IT IS MANDATORY); But I was in middle of getting my updated passport hence I went to get my new updated passport with all correct details. Now I am applying for PCC again.

So, this is advisable to first get your passports updated because may be in coming future you may need to get it done. Do it before you have Canadian Visa on your passport 8)

Thanks very much for this. Are you sure the laws discriminate between male and female applicants? Or was it because you were the principal applicant for PR? So she had to have your name on her passport?

As per IRCC, it's not mandatory to have each other's name in the passports, as long as you have the marriage certificate, that would suffice.

It's not about discrimination, basically, when it is written on documents " Ms. ABC w/o Mr. DEF" and "Mr. ABC s/o Mr. DEF". They need documents to get it evidenced by.

PR and PCC are different in that case, RPO/PSK don't check whether one is principal applicant or not. They would simply issue the PCC if your passport is updated.

Yes, As per IRCC, it's not mandatory. Police clearance certificate issuing authority(RPO) in India ask for it...

Sorry, but that seems like discrimination to me. If " Ms. ABC w/o Mr. DEF" can be written, then shouldn't " Mr. ABC h/o Ms. DEF" be valid too? Thats a different debate altogether I guess.

It may be a requirement in your country but not for CIC or any western countries.

Why don't you get it updated? I did last April in order to get my child's passport. I got a new passport in no time. Tuesday I had my appointment, and I had my new passport by Friday or Saturday, that too through normal mode.

If we update the passport, with addition in name of spouse, will the passport number get changed? Further, will the change in passport number (after receiving ITA) be acceptable to CIC?

Yes, definitely but that's not in our hand. Rest is upto you to fight for the same with the authorities or get your application moving... CHOICE IS YOURS...All the Best.

I did add my spouse to my passport since my passport was expiring soon when I applied. However my wife never did. She got her pcc without any issues. No need to show my passport at that time. We got our COPR without any issues as well. it is not necessary to get passport updated based on my experience.

Hello,

I had applied for Express Entry when I was unmarried. However, After Application, I got married.

When I got the COPR from CIC, I informed them about my marriage. Upon which, they have asked me to submit a few forms and pictures of me and my spouse to them.

My passport was renewed last year when I was single. So it doesnt carry my wife's name.

Similary, my wife's passport doesnt carry Spouse Name in her passport.

I am adding my wife as dependant in my application. We have got marriage certificate and PCC on the basis of our existing Passports.

Is it mandatory for my wife to have my name in her passport ?

Regards,
