Hello,

I have a question regarding a Canadian citizenship of a nephew of my boy friend.

My boy friend's sister gave a birth to her daughter in Canada back in 2012 while she was on study permit.
The, the baby obtained a Canadian citizenship along with a sin number starting 7XX.
After that, at some point, her mother went back to her home country with her baby in 2014, and have been staying there until the present (I assume that her study permit is not longer valid anymore). In this case, is the Canadian citizenship that her baby obtained after a birth still valid?

Please advise.

Yes, her baby's citizenship is still valid. There isn't any restriction for how long a Canadian living abroad.

Thank you for your prompt response. So her baby's Citizenship would never be expired no matter how long she is staying outside of Canada!

Is there any chance for her mother to obtain a Canadian PR or citizenship throughout her baby?

Yes, it is possible. But it needs to be waited till her baby grow up and apply the mother through parent and grandparent sponsorship. There is a long way to go, at least 15 or 16 years from now.

Maybe even longer. The child would need to attain 18 years, gain at minimum 3 years of Canadian work experience meeting the LICO for herself and her mother/family then win a lotto spot and continue with the sponsorship application. Of course, this presupposes that all these same rules are in place once the child reaches 18 years old. If the childs mother wishes to come back to Canada she should look at the economic streams and try to obtain PR on her own. She would not need to sponsor her child as the child is already a Canadian citizen.
