This is one of my biggest frustrations with the system!!! Why deny so many visitor visas because they may overstay and yet there seems to be zero consequences of visa-exempt people overstaying? Either it's wrong and there should be consequences or it's not a big deal so don't deny visitor visas because there could be some small posibility of them overstaying!mikeymyke said:

a volunteer job is any job that is marketed to the community as volunteer work. if it's marketed as a job with pay for a canadian and a foreign visitor is doing it for free as a volunteer, CIC and CBSA see that as working illegally. why? because if you weren't willing to do the job for free, they would have paid a canadian to do it. if they wouldn't pay ANYONE to do the job, then it would be considered volunteer work. it doesn't matter if the place is non-profit or for profit. what matters is how that job is marketed and whether a canadian would be paid to do it if you weren't. payment can be money, food or any other incentive. volunteering can be a very slippery slope. just because you may not feel it's taking a job away from a canadian, doesn't mean CIC or CBSA will see it like that. if you want to volunteer, then you want to look for jobs that are marketed to Canadians as volunteer jobs.babymistycat said:
