Hi, I am currently in Canada, and will be here for a while. I am going to order my FBI Police Certificate from the US. Since I will be in Canada the whole time, how long will the police certificate be valid for before sending it in? Thanks

It will never expire as long as you don’t move back to the US. If you move back then it needs to be issued no earlier than 6 months prior to the submission of your PR app

Also a question, do I need to submit my Police cert with my PR app if I request a OWP? Or can I also wait till they request it.

sorry to clarify

my wife did an fbi certificate which we received back in february or march 2016 - she went back to visit one time but has been here since June 2016 - does this mean her fbi certificate is still valid? ithought they were only good for one year

No, even if it has an expiration date printed on it, that's irrelevant to CIC. Just to clarify, when did you submit your app?

You should wait until they request it. (Start the process of applying for it as far in advance as possible, as it takes quite a long time). Waiting till they request it will give you more time.

Technically it's invalidated if she goes back to LIVE there, but a quick visit should not invalidate it. Had she already left the US to come stay with you in Canada on a long term basis at the time the certificate was issued? For example - on your app when did you state she has been residing in Canada vs residing in the US?

Oh ok, so a police cert doesn't need to be submitted with a OWP at the time of submission?

What would be a quick visit? She was back there between February and June 2016 - about 4 months total. She got stuck due to some pregnancy related health issues - came back as soon as resolved.

Yes she came to live as of October 2015.

You mean on the PR app? I believe we said she had been living with me since October 2015, and we mentioned that she was visiting US between February and June 2016.

From the viewpoint of IRCC, I believe they might consider her to have been living in the US from Feb 2016-June 2016, so having obtained the certificate in March 2016, I believe they will view it as expired. I can't say 100% for sure, but 4 months spent in her home country will likely be considered living there.
