Temporary work permit to permanent residency?

I have been called by an employer to come and interview for a temporary job in Canada. Because my passport is from a visa waiver country, I can come easily to Canada and interview with them. But I am wondering....if I get the job, do I have to go back to apply for the work visa or can it be done from Canada itself?

Also how does one go towards the permanent residency route through a temporary visa? I was told by an employer that it is easier and faster to come on a temporary work permit first.

So the employer is supporting this job through an LMIA paying the fee and advertising to local applicants as well ?

He must have applied for or already have the LMIA but yes the employer is interviewing local candidates as well. So how does it work?

Actually I just used the self assessing calculator and it says that I will qualify to apply for the express entry if I even have less than a year's experience working in a category B job. But now the question is even though I will be eligible to apply, will I be selected in the pool? And if I hire a lawyer then will that make the job easier? Even just buying a ticket from here is expensive.

You need at least one year of full time paid work experience in a NOC A, B or 0 occupation to be accepted under Express Entry.

If the employer is interviewing local candidates, then he can't have applied for an LMIA yet. An LMIA requires him to prove that no local candidates could be found for the job. So he would need to go through the process of interviewing local candidates first and determining that none of them are a fit for the job BEFORE applying for the LMIA. Note that to apply for an LMIA an employer must pay a $1,000 fee and must also meet the very specific advertising requirements of the LMIA process. Processing of an LMIA application typically takes 2-4 months. You can apply for a work permit once the LMIA is approved.

Thank you for the advise. The employer has given up on local candidates now and is interested in offering me the job.

The employer needs to familiarize himself with the LMIA process. There are a number of requirements your employer will need to meet before submitting the LMIA application - including advertising the job for at least a month on at least three approved job sites. Depending on where your employer has advertised the job so far, it's possible the employer may need to advertise the job for another full month before submitting the LMIA application. The wage offered to you must also be equal or higher to the median wage for that occupation in the province where you will be working (otherwise the LMIA will be refused). Your employer can read the full details here:

https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/foreign-workers/median-wage/high/requirements.html

Great. Thanks again. By any chance do you know if it explains anywhere on how long the obligations of the person hired are....which is....how long does one have to work for that particular employer?

There's really nothing like that.

However keep in mind that the work permit you will receive will be a closed work permit tied to that specific employer (not an open work permit) - meaning that work permit will only allow you to work for that specific employer and no one else. If you want to change employers once you are in Canada, you'll need to find another employer and go through the LMIA process all over again before you can get a new closed work permit tied to your new employer.

But what about the PR process? Will I not have the Permanent Residency once I am approved to work for this employer? Can't I work for anyone else then? In other words how long after I start working for this employer will get the permanent residence?

No - you won't have permanent residency once you are approved to work for this employer. You will only be allowed to live and work in Canada temporarily under the work permit.

Applying for permanent residency is a completely separate process.

Sorry my bad, I posted it under the wrong subject. What if one applies for Permanent Residency through the express system and an approved LMIA? If approved, is the worker then under any obligation to work for the employer?
