Hmmm this is a tricky one.. Would there not be a possibility that you would nanny/home nurse without living elsewhere?

Would he qualify under any other scheme (other than IEC)?
Well now I am in Canada. I will start a job as an Administrative Assistant soon, so I will have my own flat and have my own apartment and all. But... does that help us in anyway ? Is he suppose to come here, live 12 months with me without being able to work ? It's not a viable option ...
So from what i understand the only option is to pray he get his IEC or get married .

If he gets through via IEC that would work...he lives with you for a year, you become common law. You could then apply inland or outland. I am not sure of the IEC set up these days but he may be able to then do a second year IEC, therefore that would tide him over until the common law app is processed. If you do an inland PR application he could get an OWP (usually around 3-4 months processing time once application is in). But anyways that is all if he gets the IEC and comes here.

If IEC doesnt work out then your options are he comes here as a visitor, for one year, which he wouldnt be able to work during to achieve your common law status.

OR you get married and he would be able to apply for PR immediately (as soon as marriage cert comes though). He could stay in the UK and do the process outland then move once process is complete.

Not great news i know, but its not a hopeless situation.

I don't disagree with anything said in this thread, just to add, the current IEC setup for the UK is a single two-year open work permit, available on random draw for people 18-30 inclusive. So if he gets one, enough time to establish CL and do the app, or can get married and do it immediately, etc etc.

Thanks for that update... I did the IEC what seems like many moons ago and it was still the one year format, you were allowed two of them and it wasnt a pool based entry system. Times they are a changing! ;)

Hi again !
Soooo to continue with my (never ending) questions:
If my partner comes visit me and we get married in Quebec, could he apply to be able to work while he waits for the sponsor paper to be done ( I know it can take a few months ) ?
Would it be possible for him to do that ?
We talked and he asked if he could do what I just mentioned or if we could get married, and a few months after he would move to quebec and again, apply for the right to work while the paper works are being processed .

If you get married and after that you submit an INLAND application, he can also include an OWP (Open Work Permit) app along with the PR app. The OWP should be sent to him approx 3-4 months later. Overall the PR app should take around 1 year.

Once you submit an INLAND app though, he needs to commit to living in Canada. INLAND applicants should plan not to leave Canada for entire duration of processing once they submit the app. So this means 3-4 months (plus however long it takes to get married and put together the app) of not working.

Wow, all that ? That's a long time without working :S it's not even about the money but more about not doing much all day ...
If we get married and then he goes back to the UK, we would need to wait almost a whole year for him to get all his paper and the right to work , I'm guessing ?

Once you get married, if he goes back to UK you can then submit an OUTLAND app for his PR. There is no OWP associated with this. So basically he would need to stay and live in UK if he wants to continue to work. While outland app is in process he can come and go from Canada as a visitor at anytime.

I've heard processing time for outland apps are in the 12 months range also, but you can check the thread for other outland applicants going through London visa office to see people's actual recent times.
