sponsoring father's common-law partner

PGP sponsor form is open. Can I sponsor my father and his partner who satisfy definition of common-law partner for PR purposes? Am I supposed to add her to the list in the "Intend to Sponsor" form?

common-law is as good as married in Canadian immigration law. this is to support people who cannot get a marriage license in their own country for other reasons. like same-sex marriage, or if re-marriage is not allowed.

EDIT: yup, i just checked. i was right. your father's common-law partner is considered a family member and thus you also sponsor her when you sponsor your father. to add to this, all dependent children of your father and your father's common-law partner are all included in the family members.

That is what my understanding of common-law as well.

But in the last section of the form "Your parents’ and grandparents’ information" do I enter the partner's name? Or only my father?

can you tell me the form number you are referring to? but if i was to guess what you're filling up, you're writing your parents' name and information. since your father's common-law partner is not your parent, then you don't put it there. she becomes your father's dependent.

You can sponsor both of them. Your income amount for past 3 years must include both of them as well for family size. They must also both pass medical exams. In worst case scenario she were to fail her medical exam, that would also exclude your father from being sponsored.

I would include both their names/info on the intent to sponsor form.

They will also need some proof they have been living together for at least 12 consecutive months.

No, common-law is a perfectly valid legal term all on it's own. It has nothing to do with being able to get married or not (though it does obviously help for people that can't get married).

Many people can get married easily, but for personal reasons decide not to and are satisfied with a common-law relationship instead.
