Hello Friends,

I will become eligible to apply for citizenship on Jan 18 2018. I had 2 quick question w.r.t application form.

1. Question 9c is confusing me. I lived outside of Canada on vacation but I wasn't a Crown Servant. So what are you guys filling for this question.

2. Question 12b the fact that I am required to file taxes for 2017. But, I am unable to do it until Feb 26 2018. Coz that's the date when CRA opens e-filing for year 2017.

In both above cases should I just write up an explanation letter to CIC or just mark "NO" in question 9c. and question 12b mark "YES" for "Required to File" & "NO" for "Taxes Filed" and assume that CIC people are smart enough to understand this.

Hello Friends,

1. Question 9c is confusing me. I lived outside of Canada on vacation but I wasn't a Crown Servant. So what are you guys filling for this question. -> I said YES and then explained it in separate letter. Technically we did live outside Canada, but not as a Crown Servant. People are suggesting both Yes and No with an explanation. Just hoping officers are informed about this gaffe and they will read the letters.

2. Question 12b the fact that I am required to file taxes for 2017. But, I am unable to do it until Feb 26 2018. Coz that's the date when CRA opens e-filing for year 2017.

i didnt put 2017 tax year. since it did not come yet. only 2016 and past years

I just spoke to an Agent by calling the cic helpline since I am sending in my application on Jan 15. I was informed that you don't need to mention 2017 for Question 12b.

i didnt put 2017 tax year. since it did not come yet. only 2016 and past years

One is only required to file taxes for 3 out of the past 5 years:

2013
2014
2015
2016
2017

it can be 13,14, 15 or 14, 15, 16 or 13, 14, 16 or 13, 15, 16
