South Asians (Pakistanis, Indians and Bangladeshis) have a higher likelihood of Hepatitis B and C. I want to know if during my upfront medical exam, the doctor will order additional testing for hepatitis simply becasue I am from Pakistan or is there some other criteria? I have never had transfusion or come into contact with blood. Nor do I work in a medical field.

The physician himself cannot order additional testing for you because of your background as every applicant for immigration must undergo the same testing for procedural fairness. However, if there is the slight chance or suspicion you have ever had tuberculosis, IRCC will require you to undergo additional testing to assess your medical eligibility.

I am an indian, though my test wasn’t conducted in India. Physician asked us a few specific questions to determine additional tests- any history of surgery, any medicine we had to taken for longer than 2 weeks (he said thyroid or vitamin d deficiency didn’t matter), history of diabetes and if we have or ever had a tattoo on our body. It was a yes to this last question that made the physician refer Hepatitis tests for one of us and we were charged extra for the same. Those with no history of tattoo were not required to undergo these additional tests.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I am from Lahore, Pakistan.

I appeared for medical assessment on 29th Nov and Doc at IOM told me that i had some marks in my chest xray, so they asked me for sputum tests on 4/5/6 Dec as well as, gave me 2nd xray date for 1st March 2018.
Doc also told that if any issue was found in my blood/urine sample, they would have contacted me within two days, so this seems to be clear, as i got no email from IOM so far.
Sputum results are supposed to be declared in two months now, so i think my meds will be passed at least after i appear for 2nd xray. (1st March 2018)

Meanwhile, status in my submitted application changed to, "We are reviewing results of your medical exam", last Wednesday.

I have had private chest xrays as well and the marks in my chest xray were from previous chest infections and there should be no issue in my sputum tests. (consulted local doctors)

anyone in the same shoes ??
