Hi,

I would like to know if anyone has an idea how long does it take for NDVO (New Delhi Visa Office) to process a paper application for voluntary renouncement of a PR status?
It has been a month since it has been received by them but no response yet either by mail or email.
Please help if anyone knows,
Thank you!
Shrey.

Others can comment and I cannot comment on Delhi but personally I have never heard of anyone getting an acknowledgement for renouncing PR, it just happens.

Where for visa exempts they have to renounce to get an ETA for example usually has taken effect in about 3 weeks when they then get their ETA which would have been the only acknowledgement for them.

Assume you are maybe renouncing to be able to apply again for PR.

Hi,
Thank you for your valuable response, I had checked on the Guide 5781 - Applying to Voluntarily renounce your Permanent Resident status where at they end it says and I quote " Upon receiving your completed application, an officer will review your file and determine whether you meet the requirements to renounce your Canadian permanent resident status. If your application is approved, you will be provided with a document confirming that you no longer have permanent resident status in Canada. "

This is the reason I have been waiting for a response.

And I have already applied for a new PR, they sent me a letter to renounce my old PR after I paid the right of landing fees and by background check along with all other procedures seem to have been completed as per the latest status. I was waiting for a request to submit my passports to the visa office when I got this.

What is your take on this situation if I may ask, and should I be waiting for a document or they shall directly be sending the request to submit my passport.
Thank you for your valuable responses, really appreciate it !
Shrey.

I would like to ask you one question with regard to renouncing PR. I have received my PR status in August this year. Wanted to bring my partner to Canada to sponsor her, but unfortunately due to her health I would need to consider outland sponsorship which seems very unlikely under these circumstances. So I wanted to ask you how does it work after I renounce my PR and apply through express entry again with her. Do I need to notify CIC about renouncing my PR in order for them to delete my EE profile? Can I set up a new EE profile in the meantime even though I am a PR?
