Hi All.

I am an international student from Philippines. I just got here in Canada last December 2,2017. I was enrolled in NSCC, and suddenly changed my mind with the course I want to take. The reason why I just pick the course is that the first option I picked, I was waitlisted. Now, I want to cancel my enrolment but I want to remain in Canada until September (which is the next intake for Business Intelligence program in the institution)

Can u pls advise me? I need your help. Thank you so much. I tried contacting the immigration thru phone and email to seek advise but couldn't reach them.

Thanks! God bless!

You can't stay that long in Canada without being enrolled as a student. Your study permit will expire in 90 days once you stop your studies. You will have to leave Canada and apply for a new study permit. If not, you will be staying illegally in Canada which will affect any future visa applications you might apply for to go to Canada or any other country. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. What if I enrol to another institution? Would that be fine?

Or maybe I apply for a work permit?

You are not eligible for a work permit because you need to obtain a approved LMIA which is very difficult to get.

You could always continue at the same college until the fall semester start at the new school. Just make sure that the new school is a public and not private because if you want to apply for post graduate work permit after your graduate, public schools have a higher approval rate than private.

Thank you for your reply. You mean I could still wait until September Intake and remain in Canada until school starts? I am very much interested in Business Intelligence as it is in lined with course I graduated back home.

I am so confused right now, and I don't want to waste tuition fees.

They say that after 3 months of being inactive to school, my student permit will be invalid and I will submit another application for student permit.

I would like to shift to another course and stay in the same college but my problem would be the course I want to take will be on September 2018. Which is few montjs away from January.

I meant to just continue studying the same program until September. Then you can ask the school to switch programs later.

I don't think it should be a problem as you are still studying and you can always say that your English is weak so you decided to study that before commencing the course.

Would it be possible if I enrol to an English Learning Program first and then wait until September?
If it's a part time program - make sure you stop working.
