After 6 months stay, how long do I need to be out of Canada before going back

Hello,

I was in Canada for the pass 5 months as a tourist with a visitor visa. During that time I take some short courses (4 months) at George Brown. As I planned, I went back on December with my family, but I want to travel again to Canada in January to take another short course (4 months) that I like and I couldn't take before. Can I do that although it will be more than 6 months in total? Is 2 weeks enough time outside Canada to come back for 4 months stay? I just want to be sure that I won't have any problem in the border .

Unfortunately there's no black and white answer - and no way to guarantee that you won't have problems at the border.

There is no minimum amount of time you have to be outside of Canada before visiting again. However as a general rule, you should be spending more time outside of Canada each year than inside Canada (otherwise it starts looking like you're trying to live here). If the border official feels you are spending too much time in Canada, trying to live here or have insufficient ties to your home country - there's always a chance you could be given a shorter visit (i.e. allowed in for less than six months) or even denied entry all together.

When you cross into Canada again, you should bring proof that shows you have strong ties to your home country (in case you're asked) and also be able to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to pay for another holiday in Canada. You can demonstrate strong ties to your home country through the following evidence: property ownership, business ownership, rental/lease agreements, school enrollment, employment proof, etc.

Hope this helps. Again, there is no black and white answer to your question - and unfortunately no way to guarantee a problem free border crossing since what happens at the border is up to the individual officer you happen to speak to.

I went from staying in Canada for 2 months and came back 3 weeks later only to be grilled and given shorter stay.. so i'd be careful about coming back too soon.. they told me that's not good!

Nobody here can really predict and depends on the CBSA officer at the time but you should expect to be questioned why you are coming back for a visit again having only just left and is possible CBSA will put a specific date in your passport for you to leave by.

General advice on here is to spend equal time out of country as has been spent in country. There is no specific rule stated by immigration however if you have already spent a year as a visitor then if you come back too early CBSA may think you are trying to live in Canada. People who have multiple entry visas are less likely to have issues with shorter visits given that implies they are maintaining their residency outside of Canada.

Ultimately is your decision on when you feel comfortable coming back and the result could be denied entry or a visitor record with a restricted stay for example in weeks or couple months .

Edited update : so just read you only just got your TRV so assume you realise that on a visit visa the maximum initial stay issued at the border for a visitor/tourist is 6 months and could be less depending on CBSA assessment. Extended stays are usually only issued at border if a spouse is accompanying a permit holder but not for tourists.
